Is Your Website Up to Date?

By   |  August 11, 2014

Your website represents you as a doctor to patients, so keeping your site up-to-date is imperative. Keeping your website current does not necessarily mean you need an entirely new design every year! In fact, making small changes to your website every few months can make a huge difference.

So, is your website up-to-date? Here are some things to keep in mind as you make improvements to your website.

  • Updated content. The biggest turn-off for patients is reading a website that contains information that is out of date. Your homepage is the first thing patients see, so it's important that the message of your practice is immediately noticeable. Fresh, unique and timely content is the best way for your practice to engage patients!  A website that remains static is far more likely to go unnoticed by users. So, instead, focus on delivering pages that are dynamic and interesting for your patients to follow!
  • Visual appeal. While it might seem like a great idea to jam tons of information onto one page, this can create clutter on a web page which is often a huge turn-off for site visitors! A website is usually seen as a reflection of the medical practice, so if a patient visits your website and cannot find what they are looking for amidst all the clutter on your site, they will see your practice as disorganized and poorly-run. This is probably not the type of impression you want to make! Instead, highlight the specialties and services of your practice with a layout that looks professional, organized and well-balanced. Visual appeal of your website will speak volumes about your practice to patients!
  • Use a Content Management System (CMS). A CMS, such as WordPress or Joomla, helps you manage your website and content efficiently. Having a CMS enables you to simply update your website from changing text or content, adding images, or creating new pages for your site. Best of all, a CMS is easy to use, so you don't need to be a skilled computer programmer to manage your own website!
  • Take your information mobile. Can your patients view your website on a handheld device, such as an iPhone, Android, or tablet? Consider making your website mobile-friendly and remember that the number of mobile users increases every year, which makes a mobile presence essential! Not sure how to make your website mobile?
