What Do Patients Want When It Comes to Online Healthcare Management?

By   |  May 12, 2014

A recent international survey found that more than 80 percent of patients say that they consider electronic capabilities to be at least somewhat important when it comes to the medical practice they select.

Nearly half of the participants stated that electronic capabilities are very important, according to the Accenture Consumer Survey. The survey was conducted across nine countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, Singapore, Spain and the United States. Many of these countries have already implemented electronic health records.

The survey also found that 82 percent of patients believe that access to medical records is important, and that approximately 77 percent say that they book their doctors appointments online. Given the popularity of this option, giving your patients the option to securely communicate with your practice online regarding scheduling an appointment may be beneficial for your medical practice.

The survey also found that:

  • 76 percent request their prescription refills electronically
  • 74 percent believe that receiving reminders via email and text is important
  • 69 percent think communicating with providers via email is important
